Broomfield Colorado is located near the intersection of US 36 and State Highway 287, only a few miles from Denver and Boulder. It began as an agricultural community. Tenant farmers worked half the land in dry crops and half in irrigated farming. Adolph Zang brought in a railroad spur in 1885. Present day Broomfield combines the advantages of small town living with the conveniences of a large city. It became its own county in 2001 and is a master planned community.
The locals are helpful and friendly and strive for a high quality of life. They take great pride in hometown values. Recreational opportunities for people of all ages and activity levels are offered through many lighted tennis courts, athletic fields including soccer, swimming pools, recreation centers and gymnasiums. Upscale shopping is at the new Flatiron Crossing Mall, with a myriad of feature stores, including Nordstrom, restaurants, theaters, an outdoor village and services.
The custom neighborhood at The Broadlands features an 18-hole golf course, 8 miles of outdoor trails, 7 parks, 3 swimming pools, community center, clubhouse, 72 acres of open space, and much more. Its location is convenient to Interlocken, Boulder, Denver, Flatirons and E-470.
The city is served by Jeffco Airport with three (3) runways, the longest being 9,000 feet of paved, grooved asphalt. Jeffco Airport is only minutes away from major business parks, universities, sport and concert venues, and outdoor recreation. Forty-four (44) percent of the population is employed in professional, management or related occupations, while 27% are in sales or office positions. Twenty (20) percent are in service, production and transportation fields. Major employers include Sun Microsystems, Level 3 Communications, and Corporate Express. The median priced home is $189,800 (2000).
