Erie Colorado |
After the completion of a spur of the Union Pacific Railroad from Brighton Colorado, Erie Colorado was established in 1871 by the Boulder Valley Coal Company which owned many coal mines. Incorporated in 1875 with only 600 residents, Erie was named after one of its founders whose hometown was Erie, Pennsylvania.
The town is ideally located in the heart of Colorado's major business and population centers, with premier educational and research facilities. The travel time to Denver International Airport is only thirty (30) minutes. Also, the smaller Municipal Airport provides a full range of services for corporate and general aircraft, both business and personal use. Some homes have detached hangers with direct taxing access. The main runway is concrete paved and 4,700 feet long.
In the late 1990s, the city quadrupled in size to a population of 10,000 (2003 estimated), making it one of the fastest growing communities in the state. Through the town's 1999 Revised Comprehensive Plan, a population of 38,000 is anticipated. Today, the town continues to boom thanks to the town's proximity to high-tech job centers along the Front Range. The Medium House Value in 2003 was $304,812, thus making the community an affordable place to live.
Rocky Mountain National Park is only an hour away. Come enjoy Erie's new Vista Ridge Community and golf course. The Cottages at Erie Village offer charming and colorful homes...front porches and private patios. Also, a new $400,000 park was opened in the fall of 2004. Toward the end of December 2007, a new Erie Community Center opened... complete with state-of-the-art exercise equipment, heated pool, indoor running track, towering climbing walls, teen room, and a seniors' lounge. The total cost of the new 63,800 square foot center was $16,800,000. A new $6,900,000 library will open the middle of January 2008 with 50,000 books, DVD's, and other materials. Erie...known as a vibrant community with the friendliness of neighbors!
