THE MILLENNIAL CROWD (18 – 34)…because you asked.
Each generation has had their own great impact on the real estate market as each comes
of the home buying age. This is the tech generation. They have expectations of instant
gratification, unique communication and data gathering.
This is the generation that initially went home to their parents’ houses in record numbers
after graduating from college…mostly because of their unhappy discovery that
employment prospects were minimal at that time. Consequently, some had to delay
their marriages and the start of families.
They have turned impossibly tiny buildings into a chic new housing trend. Once where we
we added rooms as in-law dwelling spaces, they are adding “tiny houses” in back yards.
This is a generation taking the ideas of reusing, repurposing, and upcyling beyond the current limits.
Denver and Boulder appeal to millennials for reasons of not just beer, legal marijuana,
mountains, and mass transit but because they have become healthy economic cities…and are hiring.
For now, we can be encouraged about the market taking an upturn, as the latest Fannie Mae
survey reveals more people than ever state this would be a good time to sell a home, and
the lowering of interest rates (3.625 percent per annum) has convinced even more people
that this is a good time to buy.
Rent costs now are seeing sharp increases which could grow sales numbers in July and August,
making for a strong showing in the third quarter of this year.
